Roosevelt Sykes, the best known and most prolific of all blues pianists, was born 1906 in Elmar, Arkansas, and was brought up in St. Louis, Missouri. As a child he played the organ in churches but soon switched to piano and stared working in the blues joints around West Helena, Arkansas. There he teamed up with an older pianist from Mississippi, Lee "Pork Chop" Green whom Sykes credits as an early influence....
